How to Write a Good Blog for Your Website: Tips and Tricks

If you're looking to add fresh content to your website on a regular basis, consider writing a blog. Blogging can help improve your SEO, keep your website visitors engaged, and help you establish yourself as an expert in your field. No matter what sector your business is in, you can benefit from having a blog page on your website.

But how do you write a good blog?

Blog length

Firstly, consider the length of your blog. To benefit from an SEO perspective your blog should be over 300 words. Blogs of 1,000 words rank better than those with less than 300. However, you should also consider what your audience wants/has time to read. The ideal length in terms of readability AND SEO is around 400-600 words.

Skimability

When writing your blog, consider making it easily digestible. Break each section down into bitesize chunks so that your readers can skim over the content and read in more depth if they wish. Making your blog content skimmable increases the chance it will grab the reader's interest and engage them to read in more detail. You can make your blog post more skimmable by:
  • Using clear and easy-to-read headings and subheadings
  • Short paragraphs
  • Bold text that emphasises keywords or phrases

Research, Research, Research

Before you start writing, you should research. You will need to know:
  • What do your customers/ideal audience want to know
  • What are your competitors writing about
  • What key questions do your audience want answers to
  • Keyword research
Once you have completed your research, you can start to plan and begin to put the outline of your blog together. The Promotion Planner Types of Content to Promote Your Business

Header Tags

Not only will header tags help you to boost your SEO, it will also improve the skimability of your blog. Using H1, H2 and H3 header tags within your blog will help break up your content and make it more user-friendly. H1 tags can be used for the main heading/title. H2 tags help you to break up the content and H3 tags further break up the content within each H2 section.

Images & Videos

Adding images and videos to your blog post helps with the overall look of your blog and improves engagement. People are more likely to read a blog that is visually appealing. Adding an image every 75-100 words is a good rule of thumb. Adding videos can enhance your connection with your audience and enable them to engage with you even more. in conversation with

Call to Action (CTA)

At the end of your blog post, you should have a CTA. This could be asking your readers to sign up for your newsletter, download an eBook or a free tool, or you can even direct your audience to follow you on social media. A CTA is important to keep your audience engaged with you and your multiple channels. Are you ready to start writing a blog post? The best thing you can do is to get started.
